Vavasour wine- The wine of Hazlewood Castle
The Vavasour family lived here for 900 years before emigrating to New Zealand to become fantastic wine makers in the Awatere Valley. Although of course we are biased, we genuinely believe Vavasour wine especially the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir are of outstanding value.
Vavasour wines presently stocked by Hazlewood Castle-
Sauvignon Blanc-£15.00- appeal begins with the vibrant tropical fruit, melon and citrus aromas emanating from your glass. The same fine fruit flavours coupled with an appealing flinty note, typical of Awatere valley fruit, engage the palate. The finish is long, crisp and dry.
Pinot Noir-£15.00- deep garnet in colour and exhibits blackcurrant, plum and spice notes on the nose. The concentrated palate returns rich liquorice flavours with a long, soft tanin finish.
Hazlewood Babies DVD £15.00 & personal stories book £25.00
As a maternity hospital between the years of 1939-1953 over 5000 babies were born in our castle in September 2009 we celebrated the occasion and invited all the babies to return for a garden party and to become lifelong members. The day was truly inspirational and also very emotional as midwives, mothers, babies and fathers shared their incredible stories. We captured the day on DVD and also published a book of over 370 personal stories, many of great adversity and courage.
